David Dorman is an emerging artist exploring abstraction through painting. Currently based in Oceanside California, Dave has a true child-like essence riddled in his artistry. He has become known for capturing a bohemian aesthetic as well as incorporating the surf culture of Southern California into his oeuvre. Dave often colors his canvas with bright warm colors that capture an emotive quality, portraying a medley of luminous colors that shimmer at each angle. But even when he opts for a darker shade, eventually - the textures give way to a subtle yet striking visual.

Throughout his journey Dave has led several lives, all of which have been in tune with his desire to use whatever he has in his hat to provide a more fulfilled life for those he loves. While working as a law enforcement officer, Dave suffered an injury that led to an early retirement from the force. But with a family of four, he had to find it in himself to continue to find ways to nourish and provide. Following his retirement, Dave left his homeland of SoCal moving the family to North Carolina and then Arizona in search of that feeling of comfort. Ultimately, the vagabond lifestyle would take time away from his art. Which in turn led him to back to California where he currently works out of his very own art studio near the beach in Oceanside.

staying true to his spirit, Dave usually begins his process with no clear intentions. using color as an expressive tool to convey emotionally charged messages, he is noted for his tendency to paint from a space of distortion, exaggeration and intense color play. there is an inner glow to his paintings, one that allows viewers to sense this effervescent like embrace.

following his debut showing at artist alley, he has garnerd a respectable following and has continued to spark interest from collectors all over the country. nowadays, you can view dave’s art at the cobo recording studio located in oceanside, ca, where he also contributes as a studio engineer.
